Engineering students at the University of Eldoret have boycotted lectures.
The students say they will not attend classes until the university is accredited to offer engineering courses by the Commission for University Education (CUE) and Engineers Board of Kenya.
On Tuesday, only one student turned up for the lecture.
In a memo by the engineering students to the Dean School Engineering, the students asked the institution to take the engineering course seriously.
“The engineering courses are of utmost importance to the students and the country and therefore they ought to be taken with the seriousness and required standards by EBK. This is contrary to what we are being offered in this university. Consequently, the general fraternity of engineering students has decided to boycott classes until the matter is effectively settled [the university to be accredited by only EBK]. You are therefore expected to address the issue with utmost importance,” reads the memo dated December 13, 2017.
The university is yet to respond to the students' boycott.
The university management, however, says they are in the process of ensuring the institution is accredited to offer the engineering courses.
