Learning activities have today been paralysed at the University of Eldoret. The protests were spewed by corruption claims of the administration by the students.
The protests which started off calm and peaceful soon erupted to be chaotic. Uasin – Gishu Senator Isaac Melly who was among the demonstrators got injured in the chaos and is currently receiving treatment at the Elgon View Hospital.
His security aide however was heavily roughed up by police in his attemped to rescue the senator from the excited mob.
Police had earlier lobbied tear gas and gas canisters at a vehicle that was said to be ferrying some of Uasin – Gishu’s MCA’s who had also joined the protestors.
The riots have however not subsided as students and anti-riot police are still engaging in running battles.
University of Eldoret is one of the 22 public universities with a population of over 20000 students
