The move is meant to help production of genetically modified and improved livestock and crops.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the university’s trade fair on Saturday, Agriculture PS Fred Sigor said that the ministry will sponsor the project.

"This is meant to improve genetics in plants and animals which will in return produce better breeds. The breeds will be affordable for farmers since they will be sold at subsidised rates," he said.

He added that farmers should embrace value addition in dairy farming for them to get good returns. Sigor urged learning institutions to produce affordable, new and versatile equipment to help farmers catalyse production.
