Chief Justice David Maraga speaking during the launch of the UoN School of Law Alumni Chapter and the unveiling of the Alumni’s Agenda 2020 urged all legal practitioners who studied at the school donate funds to aid build the twin tower that will help the campus offer more courses.
“I am told the School of Law plans to build a tower following the precedent set by this magnificent one (22-floor UoN Towers). I was here in 1974 as an undergraduate law student and I challenge all legal professionals to demonstrate support to that project,” he said.
“As alumni, we must look beyond our personal, professional and institutional obligations and come up with ways to make a greater contribution to our alma mater and to the society. This may be by offering scholarships to needy students, funding programmes and extending free legal services to those in need.”The Sh2.3 billion UoN Towers was built by China Wu Yi for two and a half years. It can accommodate 3,500 students from Graduate School, School of Business, School of Engineering and Confucius Institute.
The outstanding building also houses the university management, council and the senate.
School of Law Dean Prof Kiarie Mwaura said the proposed building would help in meeting the school’s future desires of the undergraduate, masters and post-graduate diploma courses and professional legal courses on emerging issues.
“We are having lawyers travelling to South African universities to undertake specialised courses in oil and gas, mergers and acquisitions, trust law, anti-laundering among others which could be offered locally if we had space for such courses,” Prof Kiarie said.
The planned tower will house additional lecture and seminar rooms, a library, offices, conference centre, an e-learning resource centre, indoor sporting facilities and an ample parking arena.
