A university of Nairobi Student is being held by police for attempting to commit suicide in a banking hall where he is working as an intern.

The 23 year engineering student is said to have tried killing himself by setting his workstation ablaze inside the bank on Monday.

The student who works as a teller poured petrol on his desk and some papers on the booth, set it ablaze before fellow workers raised an alarm after noticing smoke.

The Bondo OCPD Paul Kiarie confirmed the incident saying they were alerted by the bank’s operational manager and they arrested the student.

The victim was under investigation for having fraudulently sent Sh200, 000 to a client and deposited over Sh 21 million to M- Pesa agents in Bondo town, the transactions have since been reversed.

The banks management however denied claims that the incident might have been caused by work related frustrations, adding that their employees are well cared for including those on attachment like him.
