University of Nairobi has announced that it will shut down for 19 days so as to allow its students to participate in the upcoming August 8 polls.
According to the university’s academic registrar, Bernard Waweru, the institution will be closed from August 2 to August 20.
Learners are expected to return back to class on August 21.
During the closure a period, a number of services will still run as usual. They include; the vice chancellor’s office, mail registry at the main campus, telephone services in all campuses among other departments.
“Essential services that normally run during weekends and public holidays will be maintained and out-patient treatment will be available throughout the period to cater for emergency cases,” UON vice chancellor Peter Mbithi said in a statement, Wednesday.
The Education Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i had earlier indicated the closure of all learning institutions for a period of two weeks so as to allow smooth running of the forthcoming elections.
