The lecturers and public university staffs’ strike is set to intensify this week by Wednesday to push the Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed to table a negotiation with the universities’ unions.
Speaking on Hot 96 FM morning show on Tuesday, the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) deputy treasurer Mohammed Mwachiti said that it is time for the Cabinet Secretary to get serious on the strike, and enable negotiation with the Inter-Public Universities Council Consultative Forum (IPCCF).
“She need now to focus on this particular matter so that she can direct that IPCCF sits with us on the table. For us, we are ready, we can negotiate even up to midnight, even up to morning without sleeping so that we are able to meet an agreement that can be registered,” said Mwachiti.
He also added that the strike will intensify so long as the cabinet secretary is ignoring them without even mentioning the word University anywhere.
“We are going to intensify escalate this strike this week by Wednesday. We shall make sure that now we have a process that will make our cabinet secretary listen to us,” said the deputy treasurer adding that, “the matter of implementation can be discussed at that particular point because we understand the procedures that the government has to follow to make sure that this matter is settled in terms of the matter of financial requirements.”
