A university student believed to have been under the influence of drugs caused a scare at Subukia Shopping Centre when he attempted to jump from a building believing he could fly.
Anxious neighbours and members of the public quickly rushed to the scene and pleaded with him to stop. Area assistant chief Christine Mwangi dispatched a construction worker to help the man descend from the rooftop. She cautioned youths against indulgence in drugs saying it could be fatal.
"You must shun drugs as it may lead you to dangerous acts," warned Mwangi. The administrator took the man to her office for counseling. Speaking to the small crowd that had gathered at the scene, the administrator said the public should report people who peddle drugs. She noted the young man could have lost his life had he jumped thinking he had super powers.
A neighbour to the young man who was identified as Sarah Maina explained that she had noticed him speaking incoherently as he went up the stairs but she did not imagine he was to do anything outrageous.
But when she heard him joke that he could fly, she raised the alarm and the public quickly responded. Maina said she suspected he was under the.influence of drugs. "These young people should shun drug abuse as it may result to great repercussions,"said Maina.
