Speaking to this reporter on Friday morning in Kisii town, Abraham Ondieki of Kenyatta University and Geoffrey Nyanumba of Kisii University, said they have followed up the bursary funds in the last one year to no avail.

They have asked area MP Jimmy Nuru to intervene in the matter, and dissolve the committee to ensure there are non-partisan individuals handling the funds’ allocation.

“I come from a poor background and my efforts to apply for the bursary funds for the last one year, have not borne any fruit. The bursary committee lied to me that they had sent money into the school, and when I made a follow up, there was no money reflecting in the school list,” complained Ondieki, a second year student at KU.

His counterpart, Nyanumba, who is also a second year student at KSU accused the committee of bias in the allocation.

“The committee allocates the funds politically by awarding their relatives and friends. I ask the MP to consider the needy cases,” he added.

Ogamba Arani, a member in the Bursary committee denied the allegations, saying they are not politically motivated.

Arani said the students who are complaining have benefited from the CDF kitty, but accepted that not all benefits at once because the funds are not enough.
