University of Eldoret students on Thursday went on the rampage protesting what they said were dwindling standards of education at the institution.
The students, who closed the Eldoret-Iten Road, accused the school administration of hiring unqualified part-time lecturers.
"We are having primary and high school teachers coming here to lecture us. We only have lessons in the morning, the rest of the day we are idle," said John Kibet, a student.
The students also accused the university council of failing to contain tensions at the university and now want the Ministry of Education to disband it.
However, the university Vice Chancellor Prof. Teresiah Akenga has dismissed the claims as untrue.
"For part-time lecturers we have a clear policy on minimum qualification for anybody to be hired and that is what we adhere to. This has been approved by the governing council and the Senate. There is no way one can allege that they are being taught by primary school teachers," Akenga said.
She added: "Actually, what they want is for us to go and appeal for the release of their colleagues who pleaded guilty for destroying people's property in a past protest. We are saying let the court process take its course."
