Engineering students at the University of Eldoret (UoE) on Friday held a peaceful demonstration outside the institution’s administration block over their courses accreditation. The students who have boycotted classes and refused to take end year examinations vowed not to resume their classes until when their course is approved, accredited and registered by relevant bodies.“Since the year 2014, we have tried all possible means to dialogue with the university with an aim to reach a permanent solution but unfortunately no positive feedback has been given out,” said one the students who sought anonymity for fear of victimization. The over 500 students from first to fifth year pointed an accusing finger at the University’s management for failing to act accordingly so as to solve the stalemate. This comes even as reports indicate that the Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK) is scheduled to visit the University on February 22, 2018 as part of the final stages of the engineering course accreditation procedure. The University of Eldoret offers a variety of courses in civil and structural, mechanical and production, and agricultural and bio systems engineering but has not been accredited.
