Students in Kisii University on Tuesday gave the county government 24 hours to rehabilitate feeder road network joining the students with the university. This came after several talks with the Kisii County officers bore no fruits.
Road networks in this area have been in bad state for years making it hard for students to access the university for their studies. The roads have poor drainage thus making it inaccessible during the rainy seasons and also expensive to use the boda boda as it is the most common means of transport.
Speaking during a meeting on Tuesday, students’ union speaker, Jephnei Nyakwama, said that students will hold a peaceful demonstration on Thursday 13th to express grievances to the county government.
“Living here is now a challenge as you will have to spend more time maneuvering the mud and broken water pipes to reach the university,” Alice Muia, a student in the university said.
Early today morning, some small papers were distributed house to house to remind the students on the due demonstration.
The area boda boda operators have vowed to join in the peaceful demos tomorrow.
Area MCA, Samuel Nyangena, is yet to respond to the issue raised.
