Egerton University will start offering incineration services to farmers in Njoro to promote environmental conservation.
Speaking at his office on Friday, Dr Perminus Migwi, the Department of Animal Sciences chairman said the university had acquired ultra-modern incinerating machines that would extend solid material waste disposal services to the local community in Njoro. The incineration will also provide incentives to farmers to conserve their immediate environments.
Initially, the department used an older machine for academic demonstrations and disposal of waste material at the university’s farm.
Migwi however said that the university management had resolved to extend the services to farmers in Njoro after more machines were purchased.
“The university is a key stakeholder in local environmental conservation efforts. This is why we are offering the services to farmers in Njoro,’’ said Migwi.
According to Migwi, the university is the only public institute that owns an incinerating machine in Nakuru region.
