Kiarie has said that continued massive cutting down of trees in the area for the past decade has affected the weather patterns of the location which could even turn more disastrous if the reckless cut down of trees was not stopped.

"We need to have a serious discussion now on the issue of tree cutting in this area because the weather here is turning from bad to worse. If you look back over the last ten years you will note that the weather here was so good and the weather patterns were predictable. But today the weather is so unpredictable that we do not even know when to prepare our farms for the next season," said Kiare on Tuesday at Kamunyaka shopping centre.

Kiarie said that since the tea factories in the area started to buy trees for use in tea withering activities many places in Githobokoni had lost their tree cover with many residents making no attempt to replace the cut trees.

"We even had many indeginous trees in this place but they are no more. Very soon we might also start to rely on food donations if we don't start salvaging the situation from now," he said.

Kiarie called on all stakeholders to join hands and work on a massive tree replantation drive that will see the area regain its lost tree cover.
