The National Construction Authority (NCA) has embarked on a major crackdown of defective buildings in Nakuru Town.
The move comes days after a four-storey building on Mburua Gichua Road collapsed on Sunday evening.
Housing Inspectorate boss Moses Nyakiongora told the Nation that they will audit buildings in the town to determine their structural integrity and habitability.
"We have embarked on a major crackdown in Nakuru Town and its environs to bring down unsafe buildings," the agency boss stated, adding that the building that collapsed had been condemned by the authority on that fateful day.
He further added that they have established a new buildings inspectorate team which has stepped up inspections to identify substandard buildings.
At the same time, the National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) has confirmed that no person was killed when the building that housed colleges and businesses collapsed.
"No person died or is trapped in the building. The operation to retrieve the property worth millions is undergoing," said Pius Masai, the deputy director at NDMU told the Nation on Wednesday.
