Retired President Daniel Moi, despite his unpopularity, he was however undisputed friend of ordinary citizens.
Before his death in 2012, Senior Chief Lawrence Sese of Borabu narrated how he once hosted Moi for a whole week in unfurnished colonial house.
According to his son, Kennedy Sese, now a senior Deputy County Commissioner, Moi was recovering from a busy electioneering period in 1997.
"He (Sese) received a call from Simon Nyachae that a special guest would be coming. We did necessary arrangements and waited for the visitor," he recalls.
He adds: "At late evening on a Friday, then we were shocked to see the president alighting from a private vehicle accompanied by Nyachae."
At that time, Nyachae and Sese were close friends and the president had requested to be taken to a private location.
Throughout that time, Kennedy recalls, Moi, a vegetarian, would take kales, Managu and local delicacy popularly known as Sagaa.
He could only allow few local leaders upon Nyachae's request to often see him to discuss matter development.
