There is unrest at the University of Nairobi, with students barricading Lower Kabete Road.
The enrage students are protesting police brutality that took place at the institution’s main campus last week.
They are demanding that Vice Chancellor Prof Peter Mbithi resigns after anti-riot police officers invaded classrooms and clobbered innocent students.
The University has today announced indefinite closure due to security concerns.
“The University of Nairobi @uonbi Senate has closed the University with immediate effect due to the deteriorating security situation. Students have been asked to vacate halls of residence with immediate effect but not later than 9.00am,” said Prof Mbithi on Tuesday.
Last week’s demonstrations by the students were sparked by the arrest and re-arrest of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who was a student leader at the university.
