Three University of Nairobi (UoN) students were on Tuesday charged with stealing food from the institution’s kitchen.
The food allegedly stolen by the students, was worth Sh13,000.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, the accused - Kennedy Ngeno, Isaac Muasya and Andrew Odhiambo – denied the charge.
The Court was told that on March 29, they stole three 25kg sacks of rice, 8kg of green grams, a packet of turmeric spice, a packet of serviettes, 500gm of tea leaves, 20kg of sugar, four bars of soap and five packets of toothpicks.
The three also faced a charge of handling stolen property.
It was alleged that on April 12, 2017 at Mamlaka Hall hostel, they handled the stolen items yet they had reason to believe the items were stolen.
Police reports indicate that the food was stolen during students’ unrest at the University.
