The University of Nairobi has moved to support development of innovations in what might transform Kenya to a technological hub in the region, vice chancellor Peter Mbithi has said.

Working along this year’s Nairobi Innovation Week themed Innovating to Solve Pressing Local and Global Challenges and which is being held at UoN, Prof Mbithi on Thursday said that the institution had identified specific projects aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“We are also revising curricula and launching new academic programmes,” said Mbithi.

The university has also begun the Bicycle Sharing initiative which will transform urban mobility as well as reduce over-dependence on motorised transport.

“We have built new partnerships to enhance our commercialisation of research, among other initiatives,” he added.

Mbithi also revealed the university's 10-year-trategic plan on innovation which targets building a world-class forum for innovation in Kenya.

Over 150 exhibitors are in attendance of this year's innovation week that has attracted both commercial companies and university students.
