The latest news from Wednesday's early morning road accident in Nairobi indicates that the number of victims has gone up.

According to the Star, the at least 14 passengers have been confirmed with injuries from the accident that involved a City Shuttle bus and a private car near ICEA building in the CBD.

Witnesses accounts say that the bus driver had been speeding before he hit the saloon car at about 6am.

Allegations have also emerged saying that the driver ignored traffic lights.

The bus ferrying 56 passengers to town overturned and saw all the passengers trapped but good samaritans and firefighters rushed to the scene to save them.

Those injured were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital and according to KNH communications officer Simon Ithai, the hospital received six male and eight female patients.

"A team will assess their injuries since we cannot ascertain their type," he said.

"They seem to be soft tissue injuries," he added.

He said that of the 14, the conductor was the most injured as the bus fell on him.

A desk has since been set up at the hospital for inquiries about the condition of the victims.
