Mavoko Member of Parliament MP, Patrick Makau, has called on the Machakos County Government to upgrade Athi River Health Centre to Level Three Hospital for effective service delivery.
Speaking at the facility on Saturday, Makau said the health centre had been neglected by the county government hence inability to effectively handle minor illnesses like malaria.
"This health facility has been neglected for quite a long time, our attempts as leaders of this region to push the county government to upgrade it has not been successful," said Makau.
Makau said that it illogical for the residents to continue paying their taxes to the county government without them receiving proper services.
The MP said that the county government is not serving the residents as it is supposed to be doing.
He said the facility needs to be expanded, with more equipment drugs alongside other facilities which would ensure efficiency and reduce medical costs to the needy residents.
The legislature disclosed that there were neither enough health practitioners nor drugs in the facility, situation that forced most of the resident travel distances seeking for health services.
