They want police to beef up security.

Residents accused police of laxity after armed robber stormed the area and looted on Saturday.

One resident, Peter Gitau, sustained injuries after the gang shot him.

Gitau who is now nursing the bullet wounds at his home in Kabatini, said they were ambushed  around 6pm.

“We are surprised that this incident happened just a few meters from the police post as well as chief’s office. We therefore call on the police to intensify security in the area or they be transferred and we have new officers who can serve us,” Gitau said.

His sentiments were echoed by Sammy Waweru Githinji who owns a mini supermarket at the shopping centre.

Githinji whose shop was also raided says the police despite being close to the centre failed to respond fast.

“Ours is an appeal to the government to assure us of our security. Let the police play their role of securing us," he said.

Bahati MP Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri called on the residents to be patient as the matter is being handled.

“We know and we have indeed heard about a few police officers who are so much into alcohol forgetting their duties and am dealing with the matter with OCPD, AP commandant as well as the area DC,” said Ngunjiri.
