Nation Media reporter Walter Menya was on Sunday morning arrested under unclear circumstances, with his story on the Sunday Nation thought to be the reason.

The story unmasked senior civil servants behind the recently registered foundation that organized a dinner party to raise funds for the re-election of President Kenyatta.

Police spokesperson George Kinoti said in a statement that Menya was arrested for allegedly soliciting a pribe to hide a damaging story.

The police however have not said who he was demanding the money from as well as where they are holding him.

On Sunday several bloggers posted pictures of a handcuffed Menya, which were said to have been taken inside the CID headquarters.

Other photos of the journalist were taken inside a police vehicle.

Menya wrote about Friends of Jubilee Foundation and identified senior servants who are illegally participating in political campaigns.

In the story he mentions Kenya Revenue Authority commissioner John Njiraini, who is a board member of the foundation and a signatory to the Friends of Jubilee Foundation bank accounts.

Another board member is energy Principal Secretary Joseph Njoroge, who was listed as a signatory to the foundation.

Another public service officer mentioned in Menya’s story is the chairman of Kenya Leather Council Board Titus Eboi.

According to the story, Ebui is the Secretary to the Foundation and is one of the signatories to the foundation bank accounts at Equity Bank.

The foundation was registered in May 2017 by the NGO Coordination Board, just two weeks before the Jubilee Party’s invites only fundraising at Safari Park Hotel, where more than a billion shillings were raised in under 2 hours.

A statement signed by Kinoti says Menya will be arraigned in court today, Monday.
