Residents in Miritini are up in arms, following an incident where a police officer reportedly shot dead a man, injuring three others.
They lit bonfires and demanded for an immediate arrest of the officer, saying he opened fire at a crowd while pursuing a suspect in the area.37-year-old Hussein Nguta is said to have been shot in the abdomen according to his father, Mahaja Nduke said police shot his 37-year-old son, Hussein Nguta.
The driver of Steadman Hotel died at Coast General Hospital where he had been admitted alongside three others.
"Police were pursuing a suspected thug, who hid in a house here. As they tried to arrest him, people crowded here, preventing them from doing their work. The victim was among those who came to see what was happening," narrated a witness.
The father lamented that police were shooting towards the crowd to disperse them, hitting his son.
Responding on the matter, Changamwe police boss Peter Omanwa indicated he would issue a statement about the same.
