A section of Nakuru County residents have expressed their shock over the high number of women alcoholics being spotted in the town.
They say the females, both young and old, have not only defied societal norms of Africans but also get drunk at very odd hours of the day.
Nelson Onditi, who operates a bodaboda business in the town, said he was shocked by the huge number of women he finds staggering home in town and residential estates after heavy drinking.
"I am perplexed by the number of women who take alcohol these days. Be it in town or in residential estates, you find them drunk and disorderly all over even early in the morning and what is worrying even more, is that even old women do it," he said.
James Gakii on his part said the county were increasingly becoming disillusioned with failed marriages and lack of it in certain instances making them turn to alcohol. He however, cautioned that with such a trend the county was staring at a dangerous precedence.
"I think our women are not finding men to marry, and the few who get married end up being mistreated that they turn into alcoholism," he said.
Pastor Nelson Ngeno of Full Gospel Ministries Nakuru West expressed the same sentiments adding that it was unfortunate that women had turned to alcoholism, observing that the availability of liquor and irresponsibility of the male gender was to blame for the aftermath.
"It is very worrying what our women have taken to alcohol, but men must also learn to be responsible and provide so that we can arrest the situation. The government also needs to move in and regulate the supply of liquor across the country," he said.
