United States ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has today met the NASA Minority leaders in parliament in an effort to foster dialogue.
His meeting comes a week after meeting Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, pushing towards the same end.
The ambassador has come under sharp criticism from the NASA team in the recent past after they approved the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“To me as a member of NASA, I was very candid with the ambassador that it is not easy for Kenyans to move on without serious structured discussions on specific issues that need to be addressed. And I have clearly spelt it out that expecting parliament to perform when the issue of the executive has not been resolved, it will be very difficult,” he said.
He added: “Over 90 percent of discussions that take place in parliament like Bills or general papers arise from the executive, so if the executive issue is not addressed, it will affect the operations,”
Moses Wetangula also waded into the debate, saying they will push on with what they stand for as NASA.
“Democracy has no timetable; we have periods and interludes where elections are held, can we sit down and agree to some reforms. As far as we are concerned, there were no elections on October 26.
