Kenyans have been urged to come out in large numbers to vote during the forthcoming August general elections so as to bring change to the country.
Speaking at Maseno University on Wednesday, the US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec stressed that it remains the duty of Kenyans to speak through the ballot.
“It is your decision alone as Kenyans and all of you need to be involved in this. It is only through exercising your constitutional right to vote you can bring change to this nation,” Godec said.
The envoy stated that America does not support any particular candidate or political party, adding that the leaders chosen will be accepted.
“The United States, the American Embassy, me personally, we do not have a candidate in our selection. We do not. We do not support a specific political party,” the envoy emphasised.
General elections are scheduled to be held in Kenya on 8 August 2017. The incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee Party will face off more than 6 rivals including the Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The U.S. State Department in April cautioned Americans living in or travelling to Kenya about possible rallies or protests that could turn violent, ahead of the polls.
