US Ambassador Robert Godec has urged the National Super Alliance (NASA) and Jubilee to engage on national dialogue.
Mr Godec said President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga should embrace dialogue to unite the country after the tense election period.
Speaking during a meeting with Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, Mr Godec said issues affecting the country should be addressed for the country to move forward.
He said focus should be on uniting Kenyans and not on selfish interests adding that issues that arose during last year’s elections need to be addressed.
“Dialogue is important to this country and what is critical is that the country must be as strong and united as possible. The elections are over, they are now behind Kenyans, it is now time to move forward,” he said.
Mr Lusaka said dialogue is necessary to the country given the current political events but stressed that it must be within the law and the constitution.
“As a country we need to be united and move forward but we are also a country that respects the rule of law and any talk that should happen within the framework of our constitution and the law. It is important to note that elections are behind us and we have a President in place and he has set his agenda.”
“We must respect the independent institutions that are in place and recognize that we have a president who is in office constitutionally,” he said.
