Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang'i earlier today (Tuesday,) held a meeting with US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec at Harambee House where the two-discussed wide-ranging bilateral issues.
During the discussions, Dr. Matiang'i expressed gratitude to the US Government for its continued support of Kenya's security sector.
“Especially in the areas of Counter Terrorism, Border Security Management and Police Reforms under the US-Government sponsored project Security Governance Initiative (SGI), the US has been consistent in ensuring that our country wins the war on terrorism,” said Matiang’i.
On his part, the US Ambassador lauded Kenya Government for the positive steps it had taken in promoting and enhancing regional security.
“Among the several African countries that were covered under the SGI, Kenya's performance was exemplary and worth emulating,” said Godec.
Among other countries covered under the Security Governance Initiative (SGI) include Nigeria, Ghana, Niger, Mali, and Tunisia. SGI objectives are to help institutional capacity building in all facets of the security sector.
Kenya is viewed as the most advanced in terms of implementation of SGI since July 2015 when then US President Barrack Obama appended his signature to the Initiative during his visit to Kenya.
