A team of doctors from Los Angeles, USA will undertake a one-week free medical camp at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) in Kisumu town.

Governor Jack Ranguma, his wife, Olivia Ranguma and the CeC Health Dr Elizabeth Ogaja on Monday received the team composed of about 15 doctors and surgeons.

The doctors paid a courtesy call to the governor n his office.

Led by Dr Maurice Oketch, the health specialists said they will volunteer to conduct free surgery and medical services for more than 300 patients who have already registered for treatment.

“We will be offering free medical services through JOOTRH which we have identified as the best placed facility with the necessary equipment for our work. We will be treating diseases such as fistula and eye problems,” said Dr Oketch.

Governor Ranguma said he is committed to improving health conditions in the county and is keen to partner with other agencies to better the state of affairs.

“This is a free treatment for the people of Kisumu and everyone should take advantage it. We have made health services more efficient and affordable in Kisumu County,” he said.

Mr Ranguma added that as the chairman of the Council of Governor’s Committee on Health, his aim is to ensure Kisumu County sets the standard in health service delivery in the country.

Olivia Ranguma who coordinated the operations urged the residents to turn out in large numbers to get free treatment.

“Most diseases such as fistula are quite costly to correct for the common resident and often leads to loss of life, this is why I urge everyone who has a condition of this nature not to miss this opportunity,” she said, adding that they are working to make sure that the medical camp is made an annual event.

The medical camp will close on April 18.
