Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi joined the US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec in assessing several projects that have been supported by the US government within the county.
They traversed the region surveying the projects, as well as identifying new areas for future partnerships.
Accompanied by local leaders, they visited the Shofco Organization in Bangladesh, Mikindani - a community based organization working closely with 'Banglaa' residents in education, Gender Based Violence response and rescue among other activities.
At the Tea Auction Centre, they had an opportunity to test some of the very best tea samples that Kenya produces for exports.
They later had a productive meeting with civil society organizations (CSOs) at the Haki Africa offices where they deliberated on the dwindling civil space and how the county can promote objective advocacy.
They also addressed the role of CSOs on promoting peace and countering Violent Extremism.
The leaders further walked into the Bomu Medical Centre which receives a lot of support from the US government. The centre is well equipped and boasts of a well equipped hospital, youth and children hub, an innovation centre and most importantly the best care to people living with HIV/AIDS.
"The County Government of Mombasa shall seek more partnerships with the International community in improving the lives of our people," said Kingi on Tuesday.
"We appreciate the US government in empowering our local organizations and urge them to continue funding these organizations so as to increase their capacity to serve the people of Mombasa," he added.
