The United States Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has said that his government is ready to support Kenya in devolution, governance and strengthening institutions.
Godec made the remarks after meeting National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale in his office on Friday morning.
Addressing journalists, Godec said that he believes there is an opportunity for the two countries to work together to ensure institutions are strong enough to battle vices like corruption, instill justice and strengthen democracy.
“There is an opportunity whether it’s around strengthening institutions, strengthening devolution, improving governance, dealing with corruption and the issues of security and electoral reforms,” said Godec, as quoted by Citizen TV.
On his part, Duale said that as a government, they will work to strengthen devolution and ensure there is proper utilisation of resources allocated to the devolved units and ensure accountability.
“We have discussed how to strengthen devolution and make sure that as a second term of the devolved system of government, there will be a prudent use of resources and there will be accountability,” said Duale.
The US government through Godec has been urging President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga to dialogue so as to help solve the problems facing Kenyans.
