The Trump administration has been in talks with members of the Kenya Working Group in Washington to discuss the possible outcomes of the August 8 election.
In recent weeks the two groups have been meeting to share information in an attempt to strategize the US influence on the upcoming election.
State Apartment officials have invited the members of the Kenya Working Group to brief them on the unpredictability of the election and to come up with solutions if chaos were to erupt.
Sarah Margon of Human Rights Watch and Mark Bellamy former US ambassador to Kenya are concerned that the group is not effectively shaping US policy on Kenya.
Margon shared how the group had been in touch with Trump administration officials but have gotten very little response on how the US can help guarantee a transparent and non-violent election.
Bellamy has stated that the group intends to meet with John Kerry who served as Secretary of State under Barack Obama.
He further highlighted the need for the Trump administration to put pressure on the Kenyan government to 'enhance the credibility of the IEBC'.
“It's vital that the commission be seen as impartial and effective,” he said as reported by the Daily Nation.
“The government should be issuing very clear instructions to the police, telling them that their role is not to crush the first sign of protests but to ensure the integrity of the election,” Mr Bellamy said. The Working Group is not affiliated with any of the political parties in Kenya or the United States and works as a non-profit organization.
