The US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has said the Kenyan government needs to tackle corruption as it is undermining the growth of country’s economy.

Godec, who was addressing Maseno University students on Wednesday at the main campus, warned that corruption is a major threat to Kenya's growing economy.

“Corruption is undermining the future of Kenya. It is creating huge problems and it is undermining democracy, security, prosperity and having a very bad effect and this needs to change,” he said.

The envoy said although Kenyan leaders have condemned the vice, such condemnation should become a reality coupled with action.

“Leaders need to do a lot of work to overcome the menace. All efforts have to be invested to fight corruption,” Godec emphasised.

The ambassador expressed his government’s commitment to help Kenya deal firmly with the vice, which, he said, is affecting many sectors in the country that have the capability of propelling development for the people of Kenya.
