United States Development Agency (USAID) will spend more than Sh20 million on promotion of good governance and capacity building among staff and Members of the County Assembly.
The programme will be funded under the Agile and Harmonized Assistance for Devolved Institution (AHADI) for five years.
Speaking in Kisumu on Friday after paying a courtesy call on Kisumu Governor Jack Raguma, head of the delegation Waceke Wachira said they had identified 12 counties across the country to benefit from the programme from the start.
Mrs. Wachira explained that both the Executive and the County Assembly will separately benefit from the programme aimed at improving service delivery and strengthening structures out in place by county government.
“We will spend Sh18 million to support the Executive and another Sh9 million to boost the Assembly,” she added.
She added that among the areas that the programme targets in the executive include strengthening the county administrative and human resource structures as well as planning.
She added that on the Assembly, support will focus around capacity building of MCAs on the budget making process, legislative development, capacity building of committees such as health, education, agricultures among others.
This would enable members to perform their legislative and oversight roles more effectively and enhancing public participation by the assembly.
Raguma and some county assembly officials welcomed the partnership saying it had come at the right time. Raguma also vowed to support the programme to ensure that it succeeds.
