The three-day training is to equip medical practitioners with skills of how to nurse patients and handle emergencies within public hospitals.

Joseph Kiarie, a Program officer at USAID said that the training is aimed to improve service provision within the local hospitals which will boost skills amongst medical practitioners within five counties.

Some of the counties which sent their medical personnel to the training include Migori, Nyamira, Homabay, Kisii and Kisumu.

Johan Brendan, a medical officer from Kisumu County said, “Indeed it is an encouraging programme which will help our medical sector which has been suffering for more than a decade now.”

The national government has been put on task to ensure that medical facilities are made available to all citizens that cannot access hospitals in the remote areas which has always increased death rates which is as a result of poverty.

Joseph Otieno, a nurse in Homabay County, said that many Kenyans are still living in poverty hence poor healthcare.

“Poverty has always encouraged death rates in Kenya as many are not regular visitors of hospitals. This is because they fear being charged for medical services. We therefore urge the government to help us save lives in collaboration with Non-Governmental Organisation,” he said.
