The county government of Kisii under the leadership of Governor James Ongwae has flagged off 10 new ambulances set to be dispatched to all sub-county hospitals.
The launch now brings to a total of 10 the ambulances released by the county, whereby nine of them will be dispatched to all sub-county hospitals with the tenth one expected to serve the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospitals and its environs.
Speaking during the flagship project on Wednesday, Ongwae challenged medics to ensure the vehicles attend medical emergencies in the region.
“The county government is determined to improve health services to its residents. We have bought the ambulances and they will be dispatched to all sub-county hospitals and Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital,” Ongwae said.
“I want to challenge those who will be in charge to ensure the vehicles attend to emergencies for our people. They are public vehicles and no one will be charged when seeking their services and that must be respected,” he added.
His Deputy Joash Maangi also warned medics against using the ambulances to execute illicit activities and hinted stiff actions against those who may be found culpable.
“These ambulances are for public use and if you think you will use them for your own gain, then be ready to meet the wrath of the law," said Maangi.
"They must always be stationed in the sub-county hospitals and attend to emergencies at grassroots whenever there is a call,” he added.
