The Environment department in Kisii has urged residents to use emergency numbers provided by the department to report any disaster.

The Director of Environment in Kisii Samson Bokea said this on Wednesday when he issued a notice of the closure of six quarries in Kisii County.

Bokea advised all residents to take extra care during the long rains season and make sure that they report any happenings to the department for necessary steps to be taken.

According to Bokea, the anticipated El Nino rains might cause widespread disruption of normalcy and flooding where lives of residents might be at risk.

“When you experience any emergency situation, make sure you call the authority through the emergency numbers that have been given out for necessary measures to be taken," he said.

He also cautioned residents against crossing overflown rivers during the rainy season saying that they could be certain of the depth.

“Most people use sticks to close rivers when they are full; we are discouraging that a lot since you cannot ascertain the depth of water by doing so,” cautioned Bokea.
