Nakuru County Senator James Mungai has appealed to the residents to take advantage of the holiday season to know their neighbors. Mungai cited that the Nyumba kumi initiative would work so well since many people would be travelling for the long holidays. “This is the best time to know who lives next to you in your rural homes and to interact with them. That way we will be able to establish contact and incase of any incidences you would be the first to report,” he added. The senator also hailed the county government organs for preaching peace in the county. Mungai initiated that the move will enable the county to experience sustainable peace and hence attract investors to the area. In a telephone interview, Mungai cited that the attempts by peace organizations to reach individuals to the grassroots levels had bore fruits. “We have seen many local and international investors approach the county government seeking to establish business partnership and industries in the area. This has brought immense development. The fact that they acknowledge the peace in the area is a motivating factor,” he added. Mugai observed that many investors shunned the area because of the intertribal conflicts that had been experienced in the country earlier on but that is no longer the case. He called on the residents to maintain peace during festivities and thereafter. “As a county we can boast of peace. We hope that this will be sustained forever,” he added.
