Nakuru residents have been urged to use treated mosquito nets to keep malaria at a bay.
Speaking in Nakuru on Wednesday during malaria awareness day, Mary Waweru a medical officer at St Elizabeth Hospital said that there may be malaria out break due to the ongoing rains.
Waweru noted that children under five years are the most affected by the disease.
She urged parents to take their children for medical checkup whenever they suspect malaria symptoms.
“Early treatment of malaria is the only way to save children from death,” said Waweru.
She also urged residents to use mosquito nets since this is a sure way of keeping the disease at a bay.
“Mosquito nets should be used for the rightful purpose but not for making chicken sheds,” said Waweru
At the same time Waweru urged the county government to increase the number of health workers.
“As a county government we do not have enough health workers we are urging our government to consider employing more health workers,” said Waweru.
She further urged the national government to increase more funds to help fight malaria outbreak and called for enhanced cooperation between the government and private sector in the issues of health.
