Police in Kisii town on Wednesday arrested four people after they were found selling banned plastic bags.According to the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) official in Kisii county Tom Togo, two suspects were arrested at Keumbu while the two others were nabbed at Nyanturago at Nyabisabo.The arrests were made following a crackdown conducted by NEMA officials and the police in the area.Togo expressed concerns that traders were still selling the plastic bags even after the government banned then several months ago."The ban on plastic bags remains and anyone still selling the bags should be ready to face the law. The four suspects who were arrested are currently being detained at Kisii Central police station as their charge sheets are being prepared for the them to be arraigned in court tomorrow (Thursday)," he said in Kisii town, Wednesday.The NEMA official further said they would keep working closely with the police to ensure ban on plastic bags is fully implemented."Residents are advised to stop using the outlawed bags failure to which they will face the full force of the law because our officers will intensify crackdown to arrest the offenders," he said.
