Kenyan musicians have been called upon by Kibera youths to use their music to uphold morals of the society and also promote peace.
Gospel musicians too have been hit for not singing praise and worship songs but singing to get money.
‘‘If God gave you talent, why can’t you sing for Him? I sometimes wonder what type of music is played by media houses and we call it a gospel song. The true meaning of gospel is good news. What good news do the gospel musicians sing for us? Questioned Robert Musyoka, one of the residents.
Linda Chebet, however, said that music is a strong tool that can be used to not only entertain people but to pass a message. She called on all Kenyan musicians to sing songs that promote peace and are accepted by the morals of the society.
‘‘I urge all musicians to rethink and come up with some good music. Not just singing about parting, dating, love or sex. The audience needs more than that. Give us a message that we can listen to and feel like we have been challenged or called upon to do something that will help us to develop,’’ she said.
