Kiambu county deputy Governor Gerald Githinji has called on Kiambu farmers to utilize the seedlings donated by the county government in tilling their lands to save the country from distributing relief foods expressing it as a shame for Kiambu County due to its land fertility.
Githinji said that Kenya north eastern areas are suffering from hunger due to lack of rainfall and arid land and thus a fertile land like Kiambu have no luxury of enjoying relief food which can be avoided.
He said that he believes the residents and farmers are hard working enough to till their lands and called on them to make Kiambu a rich county in terms of farm produce.
The deputy governor lauded the Kiambu county governor William Kabogo for his consistent in distributing farm produce and launching of the multimillion water project to every constituency saying Kiambu have nothing to complain about in terms of food security.
Githinji who was speaking in Thika township ward on Tuesday condemned lazy farmers who wait for others to cultivate and steal their farm produce saying the government will be vigilant to tame such cases.
He said that he has put in place strategies to curb such heinous act and the perpetrators will be brought to books and face the rule of law.
He revealed that roads are being repaired across the county which will allow accessibility of investors into the county to allow easy flow of business and creation of employment.
He further hailed the Kiambu women rep Annah Nyokabi for sensitizing Kiambu farmers across the county terming her as good leader Kiambu needs at the moment.
