Uasin Gishu youths have been asked to utilise the development funds being given to them by the government wisely.
Speaking to journalists in his office in Eldoret Town on Thursday, County Youth Director Stephen Kemoi urged youths to ensure that funds given to them are used for the intended purpose.
The official noted that some Uwezo Fund beneficiaries could be misusing the funds given to them.
He said the aim of Uwezo Funds was to help youths, women and persons living with disabilities to start business ventures.
“We are asking beneficiaries of Uwezo Fund to use the money on the intended projects,” he said.
Kemoi said the county has disbursed millions of funds to various individuals and groups.
He said that more applicants are being received adding that young people have a chance to get empowered through the funds.
The youth officer also challenged the marginalised groups in the county to apply for government tenders adding that 30 per cent tenders have been reserved for the marginalised groups.
Kemoi said that though the government is dishing out funds for empowerment of marginalised groups, very few are applying for the opportunities.
He said the county will be conducting sensitisation forums to educate marginalise groups on existing government empowerment programmes.
