The two were arrested at Makao estate after residents reported them to police.

According to the area Chief Mary Kamau, who recently warned locals against such people, the two suspects were arrested after they tried to solicit money from a local youth group officials. They were claiming that they could help the group members access the fund’s loan in less than a month.

Kamau, while confirming the incident on phone, said the suspects had asked for Sh 200 from every member of the group and their respective bank account numbers from where the loan of Sh 50,000 would be deposited.

“These people have been going around Nakuru targeting individual youth or groups’ officials. It is good that members of the public adhered to my advice and helped us arrest them,’’ she said.

Police officer in charge of Teachers Police post Mercy Musyoka said the two middle aged men identified as Samuel Njoroge and Amos Wanyoike were arrested after an official of Mariakani Youth Welfare Group Donald Njoroge, who had been approached by the con men, alerted police on phone.

“He sent us a short message while pretending to be informing other officials of the group to turn up. We recovered a number of fake documents from them which will help us in investigations and for evidence in court,’’ she said.
