Kiambu County Senator Kimani Wamatangi has asked Kiambu residents not to risk their lives living in poorly constructed houses.
He instead urged them to vacate such houses and report the matter to the relevant authority.
Wamatangi said this following the collapse of two buildings in the county -one in Kikuyu town and another in Gacharage, Kiambaa - in a period of less than one week.
"I would like to request Kiambu people and especially those in rented houses to keep their safety first. If you notice that the house you are living in has a problem, just vacate,” said Wamatangi.
He however assured residents that the government will deal with those constructing sub-standard buildings.
Wamatangi also challenged developers to stick to the laid down construction guidelines especially during this rainy season so as to avoid unnecessary losses and deaths.
"Let me appeal to Kiambu developers to shun from bringing up shoddily constructed buildings in order to save money and as result lose lives,” said Wamatangi.
Wamatangi was speaking to press in Kikuyu Town after visiting the ill-fated building that collapsed on Tuesday night.
