Deputy President William Ruto has warned North Rift leaders against ethnicising education matters.
According to kbctv.co.ke, Ruto condemned the leaders who led protests at Moi University saying their action was an attempt to politicise education matters.
Last week, governors Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), his Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart Alex Tolgos and a host of MPs stormed Moi University protesting the appointment of Prof Laban Ayiro as the acting vice-chancellor.
They instead wanted Education CS Fred Matiang’i to replace him with Prof Isaac Kosgey claiming he had topped the interviews.
But in his response, Matiang’i told the leaders to keep politics out of education matters.
And now Ruto says public institutions do not belong to a particular community.
He said the government was keen on putting in place leadership at the Moi University that will oversee the turnaround of the institution which if facing management challenges.
Already, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has directed the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to take action on the leaders who led the demos.
