Addressing students of Mt Kenya university Kisii campus yesterday, Prof Nyaigoti said all institutions should adopt online learning since it is equally as interactive as face-to-face learning which has been used for years.

“Our institutions should embrace evolution in education in terms of using the new technology. It is equally interactive just like the traditional mode of teaching”, he said.

According to the professor, many learning hours are lost by lecturers moving from one class to another in the process making students wait for longer times.

“Sometimes we end up losing many academic hours moving from one lecturer hall to another. We end up inconveniencing these young scholars,” he added.

Prof Chacha threw yet another scathing attack to lecturers who depend entirely on handouts to deliver content to students terming them as “lazy barns” who should be chased from learning institutions.

“It is disturbing to have lecturers sending huge volumes of handouts to our students. This is laziness that should not be tolerated in our institutions. Something urgent must be done to rescue our education,” he said.

He added that institutions should make use of e-mails, video conferencing and teleconferencing since the new technology has been tested and worked elsewhere.
