Egerton University Vice Chancellor Prof James Tuitoek has lauded the local community for their continued support of the institution in meeting its academic and research obligations. The VC, who was addressing students, staff and members of the public at the university’s main campus in Njoro on Saturday during the official opening of the newly completed funeral home at the university, observed that the surrounding community had over the years supported the university in its activities. "I take this opportunity to thank the local community for its continued support for the university in meeting its goals. Without your positive attitude and support the university could not have come this far and I encourage you to continue with that spirit," he said. He said that the local community in Njoro co-exist peacefully with the university fraternity and provides many services and incentives to the varsity students and staff as well as support research and teaching activities of the institution. Tuitoek noted that both students and members of staff alike get accommodation, food, entertainment, transport, research and teaching among other basic needs from outside the university -- a fact that had enabled the university to expand and meet its goals . He announced that the new funeral home that is based at the Human Anatomy Complex would be used for teaching and will also offer funeral services to members of the public within Nakuru County at subsidised costs.
