Maseno University has come out to defend itself after the Kenya Medical Board called for the closure of Medical Science program in the institution citing lack of adequate teaching and learning material.
In a letter directed to the Registrar Kenya Medical Laboratory, Technicians and Technologies Board (KMLTTB) based in Nairobi, Maseno's Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Julius Nyabundi promised to comply with the recommendations of the agency.
"Thank you for your input in a bid to improve our Medical Laboratory Science Program. In keeping with Maseno University's commitment to quality service delivery, we undertake to comply with the requirements of your board to improve the said program. We have considered in detail your recommendations and involved all the relevant sectors of the University," the letter read in part.
In the letter, the VC further noted that Maseno was open and willing to engage in an open discussion with the Kenya Medical Board in order to facilitate the process.
The institution asked the agency to provide it with a mentor to support facilitation of the process and also requested to be issued with an greeable time frame for implementation of the required improvement.
This comes up after medical students from the University threatened to demonstrate if the institution did not urgently intervene.
